Melissa & Doug Farm Sound Blocks Review
I’m always so excited when my daughter is gifted a new Melissa & Doug toy! We’ve rarely had bad experiences with their products and they are always so well made. Around her 1st birthday my mother’s helper brought Gretchen the Melissa & Doug Farm Sound Blocks. To begin, she wasn’t super interested in moving the blocks around herself, but giggling with delight when I moved them for her. The toy consists of two large blocks and a base — each block has 1/2 an animal on it and when place next to each other in the right order your child is rewarded with the corresponding animal sound.
I love that the sound isn’t super loud — so many toys out on the market today are crazy loud & I’m always worried they’ll damage my daughter’s hearing. She’ll do enough of that with music as a teen, I’d like to keep it in tact as long as I can! The toy is sturdy, and has definitely survived a few falls and a few throws at the hand of my now 17-month-old!
At this age she’s also more inclined to move the block around, and though she’s unable to match them up herself correctly, she can pick up the blocks and set them in their base if I put them in the right order in front of it. This way she’s still rewarded by the sound & eventually will catch on with matching the animals herself! This toy is fantastic for teaching hand-eye coordination, matching, memory — and it’s just plain fun!
Gretchen lights up with joy each time the animals make their sounds! Definitely another hit from Melissa & Doug!
This toy is just great! I really don’t think that I could say anything bad about it. I even don’t mind the fact that some of the sticker part has rubbed or scratched off in a few places — I think this gives the toy charm! A rustic quality, if you will.
I’d definitely recommend the Melissa & Doug Farm Sound Blocks to any curious little babe — it’s fun & completely delightful!
The Melissa & Doug Farm Sound Blocks take 3 AAA batteries (not included) and so far (for the past 6 months or so) we’ve never had to replace them. The toy is also very well made, wooden (with electrical components, of course) and I will have no problem passing this on to a friend once Gretchen grows tired of it!
