Bumkins Waterproof SuperBib Review

posted by Desiree in Baby Gear, Eco-Aware Parenting, feeding

Chic, comfortable & brilliantly designed! We LOVE our Bumkins bibs!

The Good

Allow me to preface this review with the following statement: Not all bibs are created equal!

After trying what felt like a million other bibs, I was intrigued when a friend brought me the Bumkins Waterproof SuperBib, swearing up and down that it was the last bib I would ever try. I was skeptical after having little success with other – food EVERYWHERE, stains galore (my laundry skills might also be subpar), a child who won’t keep it on… the list continues! However, my friend was crazy convinced that this was the best bib, and so our experiment began!

When I first put it on my daughter (the Velcro part is nice and wide so it’ll fit your little one up til age 2 and possibly beyond!) I was amazed that she didn’t try to rip it off like she usually did with our other bibs. Point one for Bumkins!

Next I was happy about how low the bib hangs – it measures 10” across and 9” down from the neck, so you’ve got full chest area coverage from all those messy spills and droplets! Point two!

Now, you all know how babies tend to eat – lots on the spoon, some in the mouth, some on the bib… and some maybe on the wall, or dog’s head, or floor, etc. Thankfully, with the fabulous pocket at the bottom of the Bumkins bib, none ends up all slopped down their chest. Once in a while some stray applesauce might sneak around it somewhere, but usually I don’t have to worry about a big mess at the end of her meals. It’s so fabulous! I had tired pocket bibs before, but they were of the hard plastic variety which never seemed to work for us – she wasn’t able to lean forward enough to reach her spoon when she needed to and I think she was just annoyed with the weight of it! So, long story short – flexible bib pocket is a BIG hit here! Point three for Bumkins!

In no particular order, here are a few other great features of this fabulous bib!

01. It is both stain AND odor resistant, so there’s no worry about getting a weird moldy smell, or discoloration after the 1000th blob of sweet potatoes hits it!
02. The main part of the bib is made from Bumkins’ proprietary waterproof fabric with a waterproof fabric trim – no spills will get through to your little one, and it’s also super quick drying. We use it at every single meal, wipe it off in the sink & hang to dry for the next use! It’s also machine washable, but should be hung to dry with the pocket flipped out.
03. After using our bibs for countless meals I’ve yet to notice any wear and tear at all, so you know they are made well and super durable. Phew! Have I suppose I have gushed enough about this (fabulous!) bib, but I’m sure you get the idea.

I would certainly recommend it to any mama! So, save yourself the search and pick up an aptly named Bumkins Waterproof SuperBib!

The Bad

You won’t find me saying anything bad about this bib — it’s phenomenal! Run, don’t walk, to the store to find one now!

The Ugly

Well, it looks as though Bumkins is a brand we can trust when it comes to safety and eco-friendliness. I’m happy to report that these bibs are lead safe, PVC, BPA, phthalate & vinyl free.

From their website:

“Adhering to the strictest safety standards of the juvenile products industry, Bumkins merchandise is only made from natural or non-toxic fabrics, such as organic cotton and our signature PVC, phthalate and BPA free waterproof material.”

Like music to my ears!

As far as recyclablability, I wasn’t able to find any detailed information, but as I mentioned before, they are incredibly durable and since you don’t really need to put them through the wash that often they will last for long time!

Give it a try — I bet you’ll become a Bumkins addict like us!

Have you ever used Leather Bibs by Mally Designs? Here is a link to a local store in my town where I purchased one when my daughter started on solids.

We've never used or had to purchase another one yet and she's 14m old! :)

I just bought some Bumkins bibs from Zoolikins.com (http://www.zoolikins.com/bumkins-superbib.html) and they are wonderful. My favorite part is that they are machine washable and don’t stain! What more could I ask for?
